  Korea Trade Distribution (KTD) News                                      According to 'The Korea Herald' by Yonhap GENEVA -- South Korea's trade minister has failed to drum up landslide support from member countrie s of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to head the global trade body, with her Nigerian rival standing ahead in a two-way race, the outcome of a WTO General Council meeting showed Wednesday. The WTO said Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria has garnered more support from the WTO's 164 member states than South Korea's Yoo Myung-hee. As the process to pick the new director-general of the WTO is based on consensus among all member states, meaning a sin gle nation could block either Yoo or Okonjo-Iweala, South Korea believes its candidate may have room to turn the tables. WTO spokesman Keith Rockwell earlier said 27 delegations had taken the floor during the latest General Council meeting and that one member state has expressed its continued support for Yoo. &qu

On Friday, those dogs — which includes golden retrievers, a poodle, Korean Jindos and Mastiffs, Pomeranians, terriers, and a Labrador — landed in the United States and are now in search of loving homes to take them in. While they wait for their forever families, a majority of the pups will be cared for at a temporary shelter in Maryland run by Humane Society International and the  Humane Society of the United States . The remaining dogs will be taken to a temporary shelter run by the  Humane Society of Canada in Montreal . Korea Trade Distribution (KTD) News According to The Korea Herald by yonhap South Korea's reliance on trade reached the lowest in three years last year due to a slump in overseas sales, data showed on Sunday. According to the data compiled by Statistics Korea, the reliance on trade, measured by dividing the country's total trade by gross domestic product, stood at 63.51 percent last year, down 2.57 percentage points from a year earlier. The 2019 tally marks the lowest since 2016, when the comparable figure was 60.11 percent, the data showed. The country's reliance on exports also fell to 32.94 percent last year, the lowest since 2007 when the reading was 31.68 percent. South Korea's reliance on trade is higher than advanced countries such as the United States and Japan, which means that Asia's fourth-largest economy is vulnerable to external shocks.
